This is a difficult verse, but my guess is that you have to know: bees are attracted to the temporal secretions of elephants, and hence can hitch a ride on their cheeks; bees (by an implicit comparison between bees and loutish men) are also known to extract everything they want from beautiful flowers and then leave them wilted and empty.
